ELDON — Cardinal has never been ranked but has entered some polls in the last week, thanks to the high-scoring offense of the Comets.
Something else Cardinal hasn’t done is play varsity football on Thursday. Cardinal will do that when it hits the road to Leon, playing Central Decatur in the Class 1A District 6 opener for both teams.
Cole Pedersen, a linebacker, wears No. 21 for the Iowa State Cyclones. His father is John Pedersen, the coach of the Central Decatur Cardinals. Iowa State is playing in Las Vegas Friday night against UNLV.
Cardinal football coach Landon Miller was asked if the Cardinals and Comets could play Thursday so that Pedersen could fly out Friday morning to Las Vegas and watch his son play.
"It’s obviously a disadvantage for us as it’s a home game for them,“ Miller said. ”It is a disadvantage for everybody, but if I had a son in the same position, I would appreciate a coach understanding.“
Cardinal head football coach Landon Miller talks to the team during the season opener, a 70-19 win against Pekin.
