ELDON — It was all Comets on Friday night as the Cardinal football team continued its undefeated run with a dominant win over rival Van Buren County. The Comets rolled 60-6.
Griffin Greiner found the end zone first for the Comets. He scored twice in the first quarter. Maddux Jones and Ian Liles also trotted in for touchdowns.
Leading 28-0 in the second quarter, Greiner scored his third of the day on a pick-six. At the half, the game was 36-0.
Cardinal put another pair of rushing touchdowns up in the third to make it 52-0. Van Buren didn’t score until the final minutes.
The Comets moved to 5-0 with the win. They will partake in an undefeated showdown at Sigourney-Keota next Friday. Van Buren County is 2-3 and will host Central Decatur.
Cardinal's Griffin Greiner fights off Sigourney-Keota's Cade Steigle to pick up yardage last year. The two teams will meet up again on Friday. (Jim Johnson/The Union)
