ELDON ? The Cardinal softball team took on a familiar foe Friday and made sure the result was a familiar one, too.
The Comets downed Danville for the third time in 2012, advancing with an 11-1, five-inning victory in the regional semifinals of Class 2A.
With the Friday win, the Comets (24-15) move on to the regional final today in Centerville, where they will face a stiff test in third-ranked Wayne (30-3). Wayne defeated Central Decatur 8-3 to advance.
The Comets scored in every inning but the fourth Friday, beginning with two runs in the first and adding a three-run second and five-run third inning to their final score.
Katie Conger paced the Comets? 11-hit offense with three hits in three at-bats. Sarah Greiner was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Laci Moore finished 2 for 3 and Lindsay Moore was 2 for 4.
Laci Moore was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit and four walks in three innings.
Cardinal had beaten Danville by scores of 9-7 and 6-0 earlier in the season.
