Cardinal splits double dual at New London Thursday

NEW LONDON ? The Cardinal wrestling team was the benefactor of four forfeits in its dual with Highland on Thursday and came away with a 47-36 win.

The Comets also wrestled New London and fell by a final score of 49-27.

Levi Rupe (106), Josh Ramos (170), Tonch Craver (182) and Andrew Hemm (195) all received forfeits vs. Highland. Ryan Cale (120), Robert McLaughlin (152) and Jonathan Rupe (160) won their matches by fall, while Tyler Albert (145) made quick work of Highland?s Ty Espinoza with a 17-1 technical fall.

In the Comets? match vs. New London, Albert and Craver each notched their second win of the night with second-period pins, while McLaughlin also won his second match, a 6-1 decision at 152. Ryan Cale (113) and Hemm received a pair of forfeits for Cardinal.

?Overall, we performed okay, but we?ve got to get better. I know we can wrestle better than this. We have the Sully duals coming up, and we?re going to have to,? said Cardinal head coach Tom Lamansky. ?[Specifically], we have to work on take-downs. We?re strong on the mat ? on top or bottom ? but we?re weak on our feet.?

Cardinal travels to a tournament at Lynnville-Sully Saturday before heading to Davis County for a triangular Tuesday.
