Cardinal, Van Buren, Pekin play Friday

Pekin?s winning streak swells to eight

PACKWOOD ? The Pekin boys? basketball team won its eighth-straight game on Friday, defeating visiting Lone Tree 67-59.

The Panthers (9-1, 8-1 SEISC north) led 43-25 at halftime, built their lead to 54-32 after three quarters, and held off a fourth-quarter comeback from the Lions.

Senior Trey Sathoff scored 24 points on 50 percent shooting, and he also had 12 boards and three steals. Tater Clubb scored 11 points and hauled in seven boards. Nate Buch had 10 points and Graham Wittrock scored seven. Bryce Sines posted four blocks.

The Panthers will host WACO on Tuesday.

Weaver leads Warriors past Cardinal

ELDON ? Van Buren senior Colin Weaver scored 32 points to help Van Buren to its fifth straight win Friday, a 73-53 victory over SEISC north rival Cardinal.

Cardinal took an early 15-14 lead, but Blake Scott and Zach Boyd closed out the first quarter with a pair of 3s to give the Warriors a lead they would hold for the contest?s remainder.

Alongside Weaver?s 32 points, Scott had 17 points, Boyd had 10, and Elliott Remick scored eight with five assists. Dalton Stine blocked six shots.

Jonathan Pederson led the Comets on offense with 18 points. Donny Teninty scored 10, Dakota Showman had nine points and Drew Ostrander scored seven. Neil Urtado and Charlie Rachford dished out two assists each.

Van Buren (6-3, 5-3 SEISC south) is set to host Burlington-Notre Dame and Cardinal (4-7, 3-6) will visit Danville Tuesday.
