CARDINAL — Many teams around the state, whose season didn’t turn out the way they would have liked, were given the opportunity to play one extra game for a chance at a win.
Cardinal was the lone Union area team that took advantage of that opportunity.
The Comets went 0-8 through the regular season, and the season ended with a 50-17 loss to Pleasantville.
With the extra contest, the Comets’ got a matchup up with Colfax-Mingo with a shot at a win.
The Tigerhawks entered the game with just one win on the season.
It was an all-around tough game for Cardinal as the Comets fell to the Tigerhawks 41-7.
Cardinal battled hard and stayed step for step with Colfax-Mingo through the first quarter, but the Comets went stagnant the rest of the way out.
The Comets and Tigerhawks were all tied up after the first quarter, 7-7.
From then on out, Cardinal would never score again.
Colfax-Mingo would go on to score eight in the second quarter, 13 in the third and 14 in the fourth on the way to their second win of the season.
The Comets gave up 398 yards through the air and five touchdowns.
