WATERLOO — Fairfield sophomore Ethan Cass represented the Union coverage area at the Class 1A state bowling tournament in Waterloo on Tuesday. After skyrocketing to second in last week’s district meet, Cass made his debut on the big stage among the best bowlers in the class.
Cass couldn’t quite recapture the magic from the week prior, finishing 31st place with 482 on the day. He bowled games of 152, 154 and 176 to nip Ashton Seeders of Oelwein by eight pins for the 31st spot.
Cass qualified one week earlier in Letts after scorching the lanes with a 708 to become the only Union area qualifier in the class.
The Top-8 bowlers in the tournament were bracketed off to play out the championship tournament. After earning the No. 1 seed with a 769, St. Albert’s Adam Denny popped off for games of 246, 259 and 267 to run the table and become Class 1A champion.
That does it for the 2022-23 bowling season. Cass and his fellow Trojans will take the lanes again next winter.
