DES MONIES — Not many in the Union had a better trip to Drake University for the Iowa Girls and Boys Track and Field Championships than Pekin’s Chloe Glosser.
The junior proved that she’s one of the best distance runners in the state with a pair of podium finishes, one silver medal and a bronze.
Glosser began the state meet on Thursday afternoon in the 3000-meter. Coming in with a qualifying time of 10:45.72, Glosser was one of the favorites and she showed it.
While never being outside of second, Glosser went on to cross the tape in 10:14.43. The next closest time in third was 10:27.02.
“The race definitely didn’t feel great, but the outcome is good,” Glosser said. “The outcome was good, it wasn’t a great time, but I’m happy with my place. All glory to god. It’s all because of him and so I’m grateful for however I do.”
Lili Denton of St. Albert took the 3000-meter crown with a state record 9:42.04. That was the 13th fastest time in the country.
“I was just trying to run as fast as I could today,” Glosser said. “I just tried to push my hardest. I know it’s going to hurt, but I wanted it. I just try to do the best I can.”
In the 1500-meter, it was more of the same. Glosser came in with the second fastest qualifying time, a 4:50.90.
In a closely contested race, Glosser raced to a new personal best 4:45.10 and a third overall finish.
Denton once again took the gold with a state meet record 4:30.63. Kadence Huck of Nashua-Plainfield also broke the meet record with a 4:33.29.
