Class 1A, 2A IHSAA boys basketball postseason pairings

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released its postseason brackets for Class 1A and 2A Monday afternoon.

That means the majority of the Union area boys basketball teams now know what awaits in the postseason.

In Class 2A, Mid-Prairie represents the Union area as the highest seed. The Golden Hawks are a two seed in substate 5 district 9, which features top seeded West Burlington (1), Mediapolis (3), Central Lee (4), Louisa-Muscatine (5) and Cardinal (6).

The Golden Hawks will play the winner of Mediapolis and Cardinal.

Van Buren County is the other 2A squad. The Warriors are a five seed in substate 5 district 10. That grouping features Grand View Christian (1), Davis County (2), Pella Christian (3), PCM (4) and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (6).

VBC will play PCM in round one with Grand View Christian awaiting.

In Class 1A, substate 4 district 8 features the majority of the area squads.

WACO is a two seed, followed by Winfield-Mt. Union (4), Pekin (5), Columbus (7) and New London (9).

Notre Dame is the top seed with Holy Trinity (2), Danville (6) and Wapello (8) rounding out the list.

New London will play Wapello for a matchup with Notre Dame. Winfield-Mt. Union gets Pekin, Columbus will battle HTC and WACO will square off with Danville.

In substate 4 district Hillcrest Academy (2), Keota (3) and Highland (9) represent.

North Linn (1), Springville (4), Cedar Valley Christian (5), Lone Tree (6), Central City (7) and Rivermont Collegiate (8) are the other teams.

Highland will play Rivermont in round one for a spot against North Linn. Hillcrest Academy will play Central City and Keota faces off with Lone Tree.

The postseason begins on Friday, Feb. 14 with the preliminary rounds. Second-round games are slated for Thursday, Feb. 20, with district finals, Feb. 25. Substate finals for both classes are Saturday, March 1.

The state tournament is March 10 through 14 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
