Class 1A wrestling state qualifiers
WACO, Pekin, New London, Cardinal and Highland earn state qualifiers

Class 1A wrestlers took their shot at earning a state tournament wrestling bid on Saturday afternoon in their perspective district tournaments.
WACO led the Union area 1A squads with two state tournament wrestlers. New London, Pekin and Highland all ended with one qualifier.
Louden Huisenga was one of WACO’s qualifiers at 190. After a first-round bye, Huisenga notched a 6-2 semifinal win and then followed up with a 8-4 decision victory to take the district title.
Gage Samo was the other Warrior qualifier at 113. Samo got a pin in the quarterfinals in 1:13 and won 7-0 in the semifinals to notch a trip to the championship round. Samo battled tough, but just narrowly fell in the first-place bout by 2-1 decision.
For Pekin, Reed Lauderman earns a trip to state after a second-place finish at 106. Lauderman notched back-to-back pins in the first two rounds, before being defeated in the final by fall.
Lauderman then wrestled back for second and won by decision 6-1.
New London’s lone qualifier was Gage Burden at 126. Burden won by pin in 12 seconds in his opening match and followed up with a 12-4 decision victory in the semifinals.
In the finals, Burden was defeated by fall, but he was able to grab second after a 6-2 decision in the wrestle back.
Cardinal was led Isaac Cox at 285. Cox grabbed a second-place finish. He finished second after a no contest in the district meet.
Highland’s Luke Guseman had a great run at 120. After a first-round bye, Guseman notched a sudden victory 6-4 and then won the title with a 12-6 decision win.
