Class 3A All-District 4 team announced

The Class 3A District 4 All-District squad for the 2023 high school football season was released this week. Washington and Mt. Pleasant have a handful of players on the squad, despite it being one of the toughest districts in the class.

The Demons and Panthers finished the season fifth and sixth in district play, behind state-ranked Mount Vernon and Davenport Assumption, along with playoff qualifier Fort Madison, and a Keokuk team that barely narrowly out on the postseason.

The Demons and Panthers were shut out in first team nominations. Mount Vernon and Assumption dominated the All-District first team lists, especially Mount Vernon, which also swept the district Player of the Year awards.

The second team offense featured two Washington players and one Mt. Pleasant player.

Demon running back Kael Williams was the only underclassmen listed on either first or second team offense. He was one of two Demons named to the second team offense, as junior offensive lineman Lucas Zahs also made the cut.

For Mt. Pleasant, running back Payton Walker, who also played some quarterback for the Panthers this year, was named to the team. The junior got on as a running back. Also for Mt. Pleasant, junior offensive lineman Nolan Frueh was named to the squad.

Washington had two players on the defensive team. Senior linebacker Casen Evans made the list, as did senior Alec Ulin, who got on as a utility player.
