Class 3A baseball pairings out

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released its schedule for the baseball postseason.

Washington will be the site of the Substate 5 District 9 semifinals and final.

'We are hosting, which is really nice,” Washington head baseball coach Nathan Miller said. 'We want to see that as an opportunity.”

The Class 3A No. 2-ranked team, Davenport Assumption (22-3) in is the Demon's side of the draw but Washington must defeat Mt. Vernon (13-9) first.

'Mt. Vernon has a very nice team and I am predicting that Davenport Assumption will beat Keokuk in that first round,” Miller said. 'We will scout Mt. Vernon ahead of time and then watch Assumption when they play here.”

Washington junior Luke Turner remembers losing the opening round of the postseason last year.

'It's like Cade (Hennigan) just said, ‘We are not going to do that again,'” Turner said. 'When you get in the postseason, the more you win, the tougher the teams are. We have to come out and be ready to rock right away. Being at home is definitely an advantage for us with our crowd.”
