Coble crew crushes Comets

Nik Coble of WACO had a monster game while the Keota High School boys basketball team avenged a double-digit season-opening road loss to Sigourney with a 35-point victory Tuesday.
Keota 60, Sigourney 25
A decisive first quarter for the Eagles resulted in a 16-2 lead that expanded to 32-7 by halftime in the home South Iowa Cedar League win.
JD Stout went for 22 points including three 3-pointers. Eagles teammate Carson Sprouse buried three 3-pointers as well and finished with 11 points off the bench. Luke Hammen had seven rebounds while Brady Duwa and Justin Moeller snagged five boards apiece.
Keota (8-3 SICL, 9-6 overall) plays at BGM of Brooklyn today and at Tri-County Friday.
Mediapolis 58, Iowa Mennonite 46
This Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division battle was at Mediapolis. IMS was leading 38-37 after three periods, but a Bulldog burst early in the fourth quarter gained separation and IMS was forced to foul as Mediapolis went into ball control mode down the stretch.
Things were knotted at 11-11 after one quarter and Mediapolis led 27-25 at the half. IMS surged in the third quarter and led 38-33 with two minutes to play before the Bulldogs scored two buckets to set up the deciding fourth quarter.
Cody Jones scored 10 points to lead the IMS scoring. Trevor Leyden tallied eight points, Jeremy Niemeyer and Eli Ours scored seven apiece, Blake Bontrager had six points, Caleb Gingerich had five, and Kobe Borntrager added three points to complete the scoring. Niemeyer had seven rebounds, Gingerich had four assists and Ours had three steals.
IMS drops to 7-4 in conference play, 8-4 overall, and next plays Pekin today, in a game that's been moved from Friday due to anticipated bad weather.
Pekin 76, Highland 53
The Panthers controlled their home court early in the North Division game with a 15-7 lead after one quarter, 36-19 after two and 58-32 after three.
Zack Lasek put in 17 points and Highland teammate Brody Burton tallied 14 points.
Highland (8-5, 7-4) next plays at Danville Thursday.
Wapello 58, Columbus 32
Eric Valdez and Evan Rees combined for 18 points in the North Division road loss.
Columbus hosts Winfield-Mt. Union Friday.
WACO 82, Cardinal 60
Coble romped over the vistors in this South Division game. He had 12 points in the first quarter as WACO led 20-14 and seven more in the second quarter for a 38-24 halftime lead.
Coble produced an impressive stat line, hitting 15 of 21 field goals on his way to 33 points, clearing the glass for 16 rebounds, pilfering the ball for seven steals, defending the paint for six blocks and handing out five assists.
Colton Horak registered 10 points and seven assists while Drew Kissell notched 15 points.
WACO is 11-3 overall and 7-3 in the South. The Warriors play at Central Lee Friday.
