DYERSVILLE — Sigourney-Keota’s offense was on a roll coming into Friday night’s Class 1A Round of 16 clash with Beckman Catholic, but the Cobras went from a three-game streak of 40-plus points to a shutout loss against the sixth-ranked team in the state.
With leading running back Ike Molyneaux out with an injury, the Trailblazers were able to hamper SK’s offense all night long in a 35-0 Beckman Catholic win.
The Cobra offense rushed for just 75 yards and threw for 15, as Beckman Catholic’s defense recorded another dominant performance.
The Trailblazers scored three times in the first half and twice in the second to steadily run away from the Cobras. The score was 7-0 after one quarter and 21-0 at halftime. SK held Beckman Catholic scoreless in the third quarter, but the Trailblazers tacked on two touchdowns in the fourth.
Blake Baker rushed for 40 yards to lead the Cobras. Brayden Wood threw for 15 yards, all on three completed passers to Hunter Sellers.
John Burg led the SK defense with 6.5 tackles. Chase Clarahan had a forced fumble in the loss, and Wells Clark recovered it.
Beckman Catholic, now 9-1, moved onto play unbeaten and top-ranked Grundy Center for a spot at the UNI-Dome. The Cobras finished the year 5-5, with all five of SK’s losses coming against teams that are still alive in the playoffs.
