PACKWOOD - The area football game with a name turned into a rout by the Cobras of Sigourney-Keota Friday.
Sieren runs in 4 TDs
SIGOURNEY - Sam Sieren rolled up 185 yards rushing on 14 carries behind an 'offensive line that deserves a ton of credit,” S-K head coach Jared Jensen said. 'The defense has done a great job, too.”
Jensen named defensive ends Cade Streigle and AIden Schuster (4 tackles each, both 3 solos), linebackers Jack Clarahan (7 tackles, 5 solo), Colton Clarahan (6.5 tackles, 5 solo) and Carson Sprouse (2.5 tackles, 'one enormous sack”), defensive back Brady Duwa (5 tackles, 4 solo) and safety Wyatt Sieren (4 tackles, 3 solo) as key defenders.
Two first-quarter scores were a Sam Sieren run and a Colton Clarahan to Duwa pass. The second quarter had a 40-yard TD scamper by Sam Sieren and a drive with Streigle's 'beautiful 40-yard catch and run carrying a defender to the 4,” which led to a Sam Sieren TD. Sieren's fourth TD came on the opening drive of the second half. Duwa tallied two scores with a 55-yard TD catch from Cade Molyneux and a 55-yard punt return for a TD.
'Pekin has been dealing with a lot due to Covid and add injuries to that and the cards were stacked against them ,” Jensen said.
No Pekin stats were made available.
”We are playing with an edge and physicality that is paramount in our ability to succeed on offense,” Jensen said.
Cardinal muffled at Mepo
MEDIAPOLIS - Cardinal's offense had troubles all night in their road game at Mediapolis. The Bulldogs shut the Comets down 44-8.
Mediapolis led 35-0 at halftime. The only Comet score of the game was a 32-yard pass from Maddux Jones to Blaine Bryant. This was Jones' first game back from injury.
