Cobras jump in the rankings

The new Gazette high school football rankings were released on Tuesday and the Sigourney-Keota Cobras have risen to No. 8 on the Class 1A list.

The Cobras hit the rankings after a dominant 33-7 win over Pleasantville on Friday. SK is now 4-1 with its only loss coming against PCM, the now second-ranked team in Class 2A.

The Pekin Panthers fell on the road to now fourth-ranked Lisbon, and are no longer getting votes in Class A. The same goes for a few other teams formerly found in the poll, Mid-Prairie in 2A and both WACO and Winfield-Mount Union in 1A.
