Cobras only remaining Union team still unbeaten

The area small school football slate Friday features two games with Union teams facing one another.
Unbeaten Sigourney-Keota travels to Van Buren for a Class 1A District 5 game. Van Buren registered its first win Monday when JT Metcalf scored twice in his first game playing for the Warriors this season. SK's JD Stout in second in Class 1A with 1,042 yards rushing (17 yards behind first place) on just 78 carries for a 13.5 average.
In Class A, Pekin (2-3, 1-0) and Dayne Eckley are at Highland (3-2, 0-2). Eckley is second in Class A District 6 with 816 yards rushing. Highland's Cole Adamson is fourth with 542 yards on 75 carries. Mason McFarland of Highland is second in the district with 383 yards receiving.
Columbus takes its 1-5, 0-1 record to Mediapolis (4-1, 1-0). Columbus's Will Scwab is fourth in 1A-5 with 358 yards rushing on 93 carries.
Mid-Prairie is the only team with a winning record in 2A-6, but faces a major test at Williamsburg. Mid-Prairie's Kayden Reinier is first in the district with 559 yards rushing.
Cardinal suffered its first loss last week in the A-5 opener that was played Friday and finished Sunday at Pekin. Durant (2-3, 0-1) travels to Eldon with both teams looking for the first district win. Cardinal's Griffin Greiner leads the district in receiving yards with 418 on just 12 receptions, an average of 35 yards a catch.
In 8-man District 4, HLV is 3-0, 4-1 overall and plays at WACO (2-3, 1-2), which won Monday's game over Iowa Valley to snap a three-game losing streak. WACO's Jaden Williams is second in the district with 461 yards receiving and WACO teammate Robert Frazier is fourth with 422 yards.
Also in 8-4, Winfield-Mt. Union (1-4, 0-3) goes to Lone Tree (2-3, 2-1), which got its first district win week with an overtime victory against the defending state champion New London Tigers, then edged Montezuma last week 69-63. Daunte Oepping of W-MU presents a dual threat as he is third in the district in total yards with 1,365. He has 705 yards passing and 660 yards rushing.
English Valleys (4-1, 2-1) is at New London (3-2, 1-2), which is falling behind in the race for the playoffs despite Shae Summerfield leading the district in rushing yards at 1,120.
