Cobras, Panthers move up in rankings

We’re almost a week away from the 2024 Iowa high school playoffs, and a handful of area teams are getting some big time hype ahead of the postseason.

Four Union area teams appear in The Gazette’s post-Week 7 high school football poll, two of which have found their way into the Top-10.

After yet another blowout win, Sigourney-Keota is now up two spots to No. 7 in the Class 1A poll. The Cobras crushed Colfax-Mingo 62-26 to stay unbeaten in district play on Friday night.

Returning to the Class A poll is Pekin. The Panthers pounded Wapello 57-0 in their Homecoming game, and are now up to No. 8.

Both Mid-Prairie and WACO are receiving votes in the Class 2A and 8-Player polls respectively. The Golden Hawks earned four votes, and the Warriors earned two.
