BLOOMFIELD — For the 2020 season, the Sigourney-Keota Cobras football team had a chip on its collective shoulder for being left out of the playoffs after a new system determined qualifiers. For the 2021 season, the Cobras can throw their shoulders back in pride after a semifinal appearance last year.
The Cobras must replace a lot of talented players. Finding who will step up was a goal in Friday’s scrimmage against Davis County.
“It went well,” Cobras head coach Jared Jensen said. “We had some good things, had some things we need to work on, but the players played hard, played physical and came out injury free. We can’t ask much more.”
The format for the night was for the first team to run 15 plays, second team 12 plays, and 10 plays each for third and fourth groups.
Jensen said the highlight of the night was the defense, but the offense showed well.
“We flew around and made plays defensively. Offensively, we had some big plays and consistently moved the ball up and down the field,” he said.
The Cobras lost seven seniors from last year’s team
“We are young or inexperienced in certain positions, but those guys really played well,” Jensen said.
The Cobras open the season on the road against Durant. The Wildcats were 4-4 last season.
Sigourney-Keota Cobras head coach Jared Jensen talks to his players following their 1A semifinal loss to the OABCIG Falcons at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, on Nov. 14, 2020. OABCIG won 43-21. The Cobras scrimmaged at Davis County Friday. (Jim Slosiarek/The Gazette)
