ALBIA - The Sigourney-Keota football team played outstanding offensive football Friday with a 75-27 victory over Albia.
The game resembled a track meet in the first half. The Cobras were up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter, then fireworks ensued with SK scoring 35 points and Albia 20 in the second quarter. It was 35-27 when SK returned an interception for a score followed by one more scoring drive before the end of the half for a 49-27 lead at halftime.
'That was the turning point in the game,” SK coach Jared Jensen said.
SK had two sophomore backups starting and another step in halfway through the game due to an injury.
'With all of that, we still ran the ball really well and passed the ball efficiently,” Jensen said.
SK lost a fumble for the first turnover of the season, but are plans 12 in turnover margin for the year.
'If we continue the trend, we will be very successful as a team,” Jensen said. 'We've got to improve our pass defense and linebacker play. Albia threw the ball well on us the first half, so we've got to find some adjustments to help out our pass defense next week.”
Sam Sieren had three touchdowns and 251 yards on 17 carries while JD Stout ran for four TDs and 213 yards on 12 carries.
Wyatt Sieren led the defense with five tackles.
SK is 3-0 and hosts Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Friday.
