Cold weather didn?t cool down archers Saturday
The Washington archery team held a tournament at home Saturday, Dec. 17, where despite the frigid temperatures outside, it didn?t cool down the nearly 400 shooters inside.
The Washington Middle and High School teams took second place behind Mount Vernon and the Lincoln Elementary team placed third.
Other schools participating were Albia, Cardinal of Eldon, Center Point-Urbana, Mount Vernon, Cedar Prairie Point ...

The Washington archery team held a tournament at home Saturday, Dec. 17, where despite the frigid temperatures outside, it didn?t cool down the nearly 400 shooters inside.
The Washington Middle and High School teams took second place behind Mount Vernon and the Lincoln Elementary team placed third.
Other schools participating were Albia, Cardinal of Eldon, Center Point-Urbana, Mount Vernon, Cedar Prairie Point and Solon.
Top finishers from the high school division were Griffin Wood with a 282, James Zabel with a 281, John Sands with a 281, Samantha Mellinger with a 281 and Paige Hyde with a 272.
Wood came in fourth for the boys, Zabel came in fifth place and Sands was sixth. Mellinger placed second for the girls and Hyde came in ninth.
From the middle school, Allison Rees scored a 289 and Kenna Rathmell had a 273.
Rees came in first place for the girls and was the second-place finisher overall for the girls as well. Rathmell was seventh.
Curtis Stender had a 271, Noah Kleese scored a 270 and Lane Frana had a 269.
Stender finished in sixth place, Kleese had a seventh and Frana came in ninth.
In elementary girls action, Makynna Morgan had a 247, finishing in fourth place, and Emmersyn Wenger scored a 237, coming in sixth. Miguel Torres Jr. had a 241 to take eighth place and Blake Evans had a 230 for a 10th place finish for the boys.
The next tournament for the Washington Archery Program will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at Cardinal of Eldon beginning at 8 a.m.
