Columbus 1-1, Mt. Pleasant 0-2 at Louisa-Muscatine tournament
Wildcat softball team outlasts Panthers for only win of weekend

LETTS — A pair of Union area softball teams met Saturday as Columbus and Mt. Pleasant faced off at the Louisa-Muscatine tournament. Columbus used a four-run sixth inning to rally past Mt. Pleasant, 5-2.
The Wildcats had a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but Mt. Pleasant plated a run in the second and one more in the fourth. It was 2-1 Panthers going into the bottom of the sixth.
Columbus had four hits in the win. Victoria Howell was 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the team, and Michelle Diaz went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Emma Milder and Libby White split time in the pitcher’s circle. White picked up the win, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk, while striking out two batters. Milder gave up no runs on one hit, while striking out one.
Mt. Pleasant had six hits on the day. Lydia Ebeling led the team, going 2-for-3 with a double and both of the Panthers runs scored. Madison Helling and Jersey Beachy each finished with one RBI.
Helling threw all six innings for Mt. Pleasant, giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits, five walks and a hit batter, while striking out four.
Columbus had one other game in the tournament, falling 8-3 against Lisbon. Jobie Lekwa went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.
Mt. Pleasant had a game against Class 2A No. 1 Louisa-Muscatine. The hosting Falcons beat the Panthers 13-0(3).
Columbus is now 1-2 on the year. Mt. Pleasant is 0-4.
