Columbus basketball teams lose to Mediapolis
The Columbus Wildcats basketball teams fell at Mediapolis Tuesday, Dec. 20, on their home court. The girls fell 55-69 and the boys? game ended with a 32-42 final score.
In the girls? game, the score was tied at 13 after the first quarter, but Mediapolis would take over the court adding another 20 points in the second quarter and only allowing Columbus to score 12 putting the score at 33-25 at the half.

The Columbus Wildcats basketball teams fell at Mediapolis Tuesday, Dec. 20, on their home court. The girls fell 55-69 and the boys? game ended with a 32-42 final score.
In the girls? game, the score was tied at 13 after the first quarter, but Mediapolis would take over the court adding another 20 points in the second quarter and only allowing Columbus to score 12 putting the score at 33-25 at the half.
After the break, Mediapolis added another 16 points to Columbus? seven to have a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Columbus would play a strong final frame scoring 23 points, but Mediapolis responded by scoring 20 of their own to get the win.
Shania Boyd led the team in scoring with 17 points including one from the 3-point range. Bailey Stroud had 14 points in the game and also had one 3-pointer.
Maki Mendenhall scored 11 points, both Jayden Poehler and Anna Hamilton had four points each, Violet Anaya and Angie Byas scored two points apiece and having a point from the free-throw line was Courtney Zaehringer.
In the boys? game, Columbus would have a 7-6 lead after the first quarter, but Mediapolis would dominate the second quarter adding 15 points and holding Columbus back to only three.
Columbus would try and respond in the third quarter scoring 14 and Mediapolis would score 10, putting Columbus behind by seven, but Mediapolis would pad their lead in the fourth quarter by scoring 11 points and Columbus would get eight.
Top scorers in the game were Carter Colby with 12 points, Abel Mena with 10, Erik Rees had seven, Jacob Tiffany scored two points and Daniel Fuentes had one point.
The girls are 5-3 and the boys have a 0-8 record heading into the break. The next time the two teams take the floor is Tuesday, Jan. 3, where they will play at Lone Tree.
