Columbus basketball teams win at L-M
The Columbus Wildcats basketball teams took to the road for games at Louisa-Muscatine Tuesday, Jan. 24, returning home with both teams earning wins.
In the girls game, both teams kept it close the entire first quarter before Columbus would pull away at the end having a 12-10 lead. Columbus would outscore L-M in the second quarter 15-10 to have a five-point lead at the half.

The Columbus Wildcats basketball teams took to the road for games at Louisa-Muscatine Tuesday, Jan. 24, returning home with both teams earning wins.
In the girls game, both teams kept it close the entire first quarter before Columbus would pull away at the end having a 12-10 lead. Columbus would outscore L-M in the second quarter 15-10 to have a five-point lead at the half.
Columbus would score twice as many points as their hosts in the third quarter putting 14. L-M would outscore Columbus in the fourth quarter 11-6, but it wasn?t enough as Columbus would win 47-38.
Bailey Stroud led the team in scoring with 23 points, including four three-pointers. Shania Boyd followed with 16 points and both Anna Hamilton and Maki Mendenhall scored four points each.
Stroud had eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Boyd had six rebounds, three assists, one block and with the three steals she had in the game, it moved her into second place for all-time in career steals.
Hamilton had five rebounds and two assists while Mendenhall had seven rebounds and one steal.

In boys? action, L-M would start off the game taking the lead and ending the first quarter up 20-11.
They could score six more in the second quarter and Columbus would add 11 putting the score at 22-26 in favor of L-M heading into the break.
Columbus would slowly start to turn things their way in the third quarter as they would score 13 points to L-M?s 12, to have just a three-point deficit.
In the fourth quarter both teams would battle it out, but L-M would come up just short as they would score 10, while Columbus would have 14 to win the game by one point, 49-48, earning their first win of the season.
Carter Colby scored 21 points in the game to lead the team. Ruben Paz had 11 points, Tommy Pretz scored 10, J. D. Lekwa had four points and Erik Rees scored three.

The girls now sit at 9-7 for the season and are 7-6 in conference play. The boys are at 1-15 for the year. Both teams are host to Pekin Friday, Jan. 27, with action beginning at 6 p.m.
