Columbus boys take home meet
Van Buren County leads area girls with second-place finish

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — A handful of area schools kicked off the outdoor track and field season on Monday night with Columbus hosting a coed meet.
On the boys’ side, Columbus took the crown with 212 points as a team.
Van Buren County followed with 148 points, Winfield-Mt. Union had 123, Central Lee 94, Lone Tree 63, Hillcrest Academy 18 and Highland nine.
For the girls, Lone Tree was the highest placer with 158.5 points. Van Buren County followed with 127.50, Highland 116, Winfield-Mt. Union 96, Central Lee 61, Columbus 54, New London 49 and Hillcrest Academy 15.
For the Columbus boys, Kaden Amigon was a two-time winner.
Amigon ran a 11.06 for first in the 100-meter dash and 23.16 in the 200-meter for the top spot.
Fellow wildcat Jeff Hoback followed with second in both events with times of 11.48 and 24.00.
Damian Vergara picked up another first-place finish for the Wildcats in the 800-meter. Vergara clocked a time of 2:09.16.
In the 3200-meter run, Cael Phillips finish second with a time of 11:03.97.
Triston Miller was a first-place finisher in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.73.
The Wildcats were first-place finishers in the 4x100, featuring Hoback, Riley Kaalberg, Miller and Amigon. The four posted a time of 43.36.
Columbus grabbed another relay win in the 4x800. Hills-Carrier, Bryan Tlatenchi, Cole Storm and Vergara posted a time of 8:59.72 for the top spot.
In the sprint medley, Jon Miranda, Kaalberg, Hoback and Juan Chairez took second with a time of 1:42.00
In the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle, Dante Zuniga, Alexander Rees, Jon Miranda and Tyson Kaalberg took second with a time of 1:14.52.
Miller finished first in high jump with a leap of 6-06.
Amigon took second in long jump with a jump of 20-07.25.
Russell Coil won the shot put and discus with throws of 40-08.50 and 117 feet.
Bryce Grimm followed with a second-place finish in shot as well throwing 38-00.50.
For second-place Van Buren County, Anthony Duncan picked up a win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.54.
Korbin Camp finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.25.
Lincoln Bainbridge grabbed a second-place finish as well in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:06.93.
Duncan took second in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 58.59.
Bainbridge clocked a time of 10:50.50 for first in the 3200-meter.
Duncan and Tyler Stoltz tied for second in high jump with a leap of 6-00.00 feet.
The 4x200 of Kayden Simmons, Bryce Newcomb, Izaak Loeffler and Bryce Moquin finished second with a time of 1:38.86.
The 4x400 of Simmons, Loeffler, Blaine Benjamin and Newcomb took second as well. The quartet finished with a time of 3:54.42.
Dominic Meierotto, Lucas Fett, Moquin and Duncan finished first in the 800 sprint medley with a time of 1:41.02.
Fett, Meierotto, Bainbridge and Camp took second in the distance medley.
The 110-meter shuttle hurdle of Loeffler, Newcomb, Simmons and Stoltz finished first with a time of 1:13.34.
For Winfield-Mt. Union, Kohlby Newsom finished first in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:45.53.
Gabe Hemsworth finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.60 and second in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.73.
In the field events, Cam Buffington took first in the long jump with a leap of 20-11.00.
Carter Loyd tied for second in high jump with a jump of 6-00.00.
Kai Malone took second in discus with a throw of 95-03.50.
The 4x100 squad of Cole Milks, Buffington, Eli Miller and Brenden Simmons finished second with a time of 43.36.
The 4x400 of Ty Scorpil, Abram Edwards, Carter Loyd and Hemsworth took first with a time of 3:53.98
In the 4x800, the team of Bowen Thomson, Scorpil, Alex Venzor and Newsom finished second, clocking a time of 9:16.30.
The distance medley of Miler, Simmons, Hemsworth and Newsom took first with a time of 3:50.67.
For Hillcrest, Jesse Blossom was the highest finisher on the day, taking fourth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:23.73.
Highland was led by Jackson Schneider who took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles with times of 20.87 and 1:15.01.
On the girls’ side, Rylee Caviness took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.43.
Rylee Philips finished first in the 1500-meter with a time of 5:59.73.
Libby Bainbridge was a first-place finisher in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:22.56.
The Warrior 4x100 of Marlee Mertens, Kracht, Madelyn Johnson and Caylin Schmitt took second with a time of 56.28
Kracth, Sophia Jirak, Caviness and Philips took first in the 4x800 with a time of 11:38.84.
In the distance medley, Lexie Wiley, Marta Ardizzone, Keley Welch and Rylee Philips took second with a time of 5:16.56.
The 4x100 of Mertens, Caylin Schmitt, Keley Welch and Bainbridge finished second with a time of 1:21.16.
In high jump, Mertens took the top spot with a leap of 4-08.00.
For Highland, Mackenzie McFarland finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.92.
Siena Stanerson finished second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 6:15.02.
Sarah Burton won the long jump with a leap of 16-05.75.
Jessica Kraus took the discus win with a throw of 90.04.00.
The Huskies squad of Lilly Barre, Burton, Kealy Roberts and McFarland were first-place finishers in the 4x200 with a time of 2:00.12.
Highland’s 4x800 team of Hailey Netser, Stanerson, Olivia Edwards and Kylie Allen finished second with a time of 12:48.60.
For Winfield-Mt. Union, Keetyn Townsley was a winner in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.05.
Teammate Josie Nelson followed in second with a time of 18.14.
The 4x200 of Keyreana Sharar, Mariana Hagmeier, Quin Smith and Aurey Meeker finished second with a time of 2:02.52.
Meeker, Kaelyn Townsley, Quin Smith and Nelson finished first in the 4x400. The four posted a time of 4:47.11.
The sprint medley of Meeker, Keetyn Townsley, Tessa Huston and Nelson took second with a time of 2:07.48.
Keetyn Townsley, Sharar, Huston and Nelson won the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdles with a time of 1:19.10.
The Wolves’ Quin Smith tied for first in high jump with a leap of 4-08.00.
Bradie Buffington finished second in shot put with a throw of 28-03.00.
For the Columbus girls, the distance medley of Claire Humphreys, Victoria Howell, Naveiah and Ariana Vergara were the high placers. The four placed first with a time of 5:08.03.
New London’s highest placer on the day was Morgan Jones in the 800-meter. Jones finished second with a time of 2:56.16.
For Hillcrest Academy, Anna Torok was a third-place finisher in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 14.55.
