Columbus edges Pekin in volleyball

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — It was a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division volleyball battle to the very end with Columbus prevailing by three points in the deciding set for a 3-2 win Tuesday against the visitors. Pekin won the first and fourth sets. The final was the Wildcats 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 18-25, 15-12.
Victoria Howell and Lily Coil combined for 28 kills in the victory with Sera Vela putting up 22 assists. Isabelle Lagunas had five digs.
Taylor Gambell set 15 assists, and Pekin teammates Claire Roth and Emma Phillips combined to put 17 kills down, and Kayse Miller hit five. Roth added 10 digs and four aces. Sadie Sieren had 12 digs.
Pekin is now 2-4 while Columbus is 2-10.
