GRUNDY CENTER — Columbus football put together one of its best season in program history this year.
On Friday in the Wildcats Class A second round matchup against No. 2 Grundy Center it came to a close as Columbus was bested by the Spartans 41-7.
From the get go, it was a tough outing for Columbus as the second rated Spartans scored nearly half their points, 20, in the first quarter.
The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the second on a Jeff Hoback touchdown pass, but the Spartans never let up scoring seven in each of the last three quarters of play.
Columbus had been dominant on the ground all year long, but the Grundy Center defense did well to limit the Wildcats rushing attack.
The Spartans, while facilitating on defense, also had both the passing and run game going on Friday night. They threw for 170 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 254 yards and five touchdowns.
With the loss, Columbus ends its season at 8-2.
