Columbus trailed Wapello by just three points going into the fourth quarter of Monday?s Class 2A District 11 quarterfinal, but the host Indians pulled away over the game?s final eight minutes for an 80-69 victory.
Sophomore Chase Finke scored 17 points to lead Columbus, which finishes its season with a record of 1-21. Junior Ricky Rivers added 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Wildcats, and senior Edgar Rodriguez had 15 points and seven rebounds.
Junior Tucker Massner led five Wapello players in double figures with a game-high 25 points. Senior Jordan Schoonover added 16 points, and junior Collin Poe had 14. Junior Alex Rollinger and sophomore Holden Brockway chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Indians (9-13), who advance to Thursday?s district semifinal at Mediapolis (13-8).
