Columbus football clipped by North Mahaska

NEW SHARON — Columbus set sail for a nondistrict game Friday and lost a close battle with the North Mahaska Warhawks 12-10.
The first half had a Wildcats field goal from Yahir Ayala and a touchdown by the home team for a 6-3 halftime score.
In the third quarter, the Warhawks scored but Triston Miller tallied a touchdown on one of his 11 carries for Columbus. Kaden Amigon ran for 144 yards on 21 carries while Wildcats teammates Jeff Hoback (four carries) and Andrew Gonzalez (eight carries) each totaled 26 yards.
Hoback was 3-for-5 passing with Daniel Martinez catching a pass and Miller two.
Logan Bright snagged an interception and made 5.5 tackles to lead the Wildcats defense. Trenton Hoback and Gerardo Orozco each had four tackles, two solo.
Columbus is 2-4 and hosts North Cedar (1-5) Friday in a return to district play.
