Columbus girls basketball team loses to Pekin, tie two records
While the Columbus girls basketball team lost their game to Pekin Friday, Jan. 27, two school records were tied in the process of the game, both relating to shots from outside the arc.
Bailey Stroud tied the school record for shooting five 3-point shots in the game and with those five, Courtney Zaehringer had two to tie the school record for a team total of seven 3-pointers in one game.

While the Columbus girls basketball team lost their game to Pekin Friday, Jan. 27, two school records were tied in the process of the game, both relating to shots from outside the arc.
Bailey Stroud tied the school record for shooting five 3-point shots in the game and with those five, Courtney Zaehringer had two to tie the school record for a team total of seven 3-pointers in one game.
The game itself was close as Pekin would take an early lead after the first quarter going up 14-11.
Columbus would come back in the second scoring eight and Pekin putting up three to have a 19-17 lead at the half.
After the break, Pekin would score six to Pekin?s four putting the score at 23-23 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
During the fourth quarter, both teams would keep it close, but Pekin would end on top as they outscored Columbus by just two points to get the win 50-48.
Stroud had a total of 22 points in the game, having a double-double with 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Shania Boyd scored 16 points and had five rebounds and five steals. Zaehringer had six points while Maki Mendenhall scored four.
Columbus is 9-8 for the season while Pekin moves to 14-3. The Columbus girls play at Mediapolis tonight beginning at 6 p.m.
