The Columbus Wildcats girls? basketball team lost their matchup at Lone Tree Tuesday, Jan. 3, by just three points, 49-52.

The Columbus Wildcats girls? basketball team lost their matchup at Lone Tree Tuesday, Jan. 3, by just three points, 49-52.
Columbus would have the lead after the first quarter, going up 14-11. The lead would change hands after the second quarter as Lone Tree scored 14 to Columbus? nine for a 25-23 score in Lone Tree?s favor at the break.
After halftime, Columbus would regain the lead scoring 15 points to Lone Tree?s 12, putting the score at 38-37 in the Wildcats? favor.
The lead was short-lived as Lone Tree would outscore Wapello in the fourth quarter 15-11, ending the game in the home team Lions? favor.
Bailey Stroud lead the team in scoring, having 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Courtney Zaehringer scored 12 points in the game.
Shania Boyd had nine points and five assists. Maki Mendenhall scored four points, Angie Byas had two points and nine rebounds and Anna Hamilton had one successful free throw for one point.
Columbus moves to 5-5 for the season and are 4-4 in conference. They next take to the court Friday, Jan. 6, when they host Wapello beginning at 6 p.m.
