Columbus splits with Central Lee
Wildcat girls pick up win over Hawks, boys fall

COLUMBUS — Columbus boys and girls basketball was in action on Monday night against Central Lee at home.
For the Wildcats, it was a split night as the Columbus girls grabbed a win, 47-43, in overtime. while the boys suffered a loss 76-35.
In the girls’ contest, it was tight through and through.
Central Lee led after the first after 11-10, but a 10-7 second period by the Wildcats put them up 20-18 at the half. Central Lee took the third 8-7 and the fourth 12-11 to knot the game at 38-38 after a full-time.
With eight minutes of extra time, it was Columbus who finished who gain the edge in the overtime with a 9-5 frame.
Lily Coil led the Wildcats with 18 points, 16 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Frannie Sosa followed with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ariana Vergara added seven points.
Columbus moves to 8-1 with the win.
On the boys’ side, Central Lee outscored Columbus 36-15 through the opening two quarters. But it was a big third quarter that extended the Hawks lead.
Central Lee topped the Wildcats 30-12 in the third quarter to make it 66-27 after three. The Hawks went on to take the fourth 10-8 to seal it.
With the loss, Columbus moves to 1-7 on the season.
