NEW SHARON — Columbus girls basketball had a tough end to the season on Friday night after a 61-22 loss to North Mahaska in the second round of 2A Region 6 bracket.
The Wildcats struggled from the jump.
North Mahaska jumped out to an 18-6 lead through one quarter and never looked back.
The Wildcats couldn’t find a rhythm on the offensive end and the North Mahaska defense didn’t help, as they were held to six points or less in each quarter.
In the second, the Wildcats were held to their lowest point total of the night as the Warhawks won the scoring battle 16-4. At the half, Columbus trailed 34-10.
North Mahaska continued to tack it on through the second half, leading 48-16 after three and closing the game on a 13-6 run.
Ariana Vergara finished with eight points to lead the Wildcats. Frannie Sosa, Kinlee Brown and Isabel Rendon all ended with four. Brittany Garcia added two.
Columbus closes its season with a 15-7 overall record.
