Columbus Wildcats lose volleyball to Mediapolis Bullettes

MEDIAPOLIS -- The Columbus volleyball team was so close, yet so far in a 3-0 loss to Mediapolis, which played its first match of the season.
The Wildcats deflected the hail of Bullettes in the second set but ultimately lost in extra points. The final read 25-13, 27-25, 25-16 for the home team in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division match Thursday.
Sera Vela put up 12 assists for the Wildcats as Victoria Howell and Lily Coil combined to put down 12 kills. Miriam Ruvacalba served three aces.
The Columbus Wildcats were even in defense with five digs apiece from Isabella Lasgunas, Vela, Coil and Howell.
Mediapolis saw Haley Steffner record nine kills off Kennedy Welliver’s 19 assists. Jaydon Wirt had five aces and three digs.
Columbus is 1-6, 0-1 in the North.
