Columbus wins combined title

COLUMBUS JUNCTION - The Columbus cross-country team won two trophies Tuesday at the Mike Jay Invitational at Cedarcrest Golf Course. The boys team finished first in the six-team meet, and the entire varsity team (boys and girls) won the Dick Peterson Combined Team Trophy.

'I am really so proud of all our kids, and this is really just a culmination of a very nice season,” coach Steve Riley said.

It was Columbus' second team title of the year. Earlier they won at Keota. Riley said his team's goal was to win the combined trophy.

'We wanted to do it because we are a complete team, boys and girls,” he said. 'I've never seen a bunch of kids happier that we were able to do it. And this was a difficult night to run because we just ran the conference meet (Monday) night, this is Homecoming Week, and kids are tired.”
