Wildcats beat Pekin, secure conference championship alone

Tuesday night’s area small school basketball action was highlighted by a historic night at Columbus, where the Wildcat girls knocked off Pekin to polish off a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division crown.
Columbus 45, Pekin 28
Lily Coil scored 13 points and brought down 14 rebounds as the Wildcats wrapped up the SEISC North championship with a 14-2 record, finishing one game above Lone Tree in what was a wild conference race.
Isabel Rendon added 13 points for the Wildcats. Ariana Vergara scored 12 points and led the team with four steals. Franie Sosa scored four points, and Madeleine Howell finished the night with three.
Highland 53, Louisa-Muscatine 34
Kamryn Fink went off for 29 points, 18 rebounds and six steals to lead Highland to a blowout win over Louisa-Muscatine, helping the Huskies settle into third place in the conference.
Lone Tree 52, Hillcrest Academy 32
The Ravens couldn’t upend second-place Lone Tree in North Division action, seeing an 8-5 first quarter lead turn into a 20-point defeat.
WACO 42, Winfield-Mount Union 25
The Warriors snapped a five-game losing streak by finishing off the season sweep of the rival Wolves. Brenna Graber went for 20 points to lead WACO.
Mid-Prairie 48, Tipton 37
Brylee Gearhart went for 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the Golden Hawks to a key River Valey South victory, which helped them lock up second place in the conference standings.
Chariton 52, Cardinal 38
The Comets fought hard but couldn’t secure their first win in a South Central Clash at Chariton.
