Columbus wrestling team takes part in Highland tournament
The Columbus wrestling team was one of 12 schools taking part in the Gary Curtis Invitational Saturday, Jan. 7. The team finished the day in sixth place with a total score of 73 points.
Jarod Kadel (106) came in second place and scored 16 points. After receiving a bye in the quarterfinals, he won the semifinals by a 3-1 decision over Will Esmoil.

The Columbus wrestling team was one of 12 schools taking part in the Gary Curtis Invitational Saturday, Jan. 7. The team finished the day in sixth place with a total score of 73 points.
Jarod Kadel (106) came in second place and scored 16 points. After receiving a bye in the quarterfinals, he won the semifinals by a 3-1 decision over Will Esmoil.
He lost the first-place match to Nolan Noonan (Cascade) by a 10-2 major decision.
Chase Wheeler (113) came in sixth place and scored three team points. He lost the quarterfinals to Talen Dengler (West Liberty) by fall in 0:24. He received a bye in both the quarterfinal and semifinal consolation rounds. He lost the fifth-place match to Henry May from Regina by fall in 0:12.
Cesar Neri (120) placed fourth and scored seven team points. He had a bye in the quarterfinals before losing by fall in 3:42 to Reid Johnson from Wilton in the semifinals.
He lost the third-place match by fall in 1:35 to Brandon Dickel from Washington.
Armando Quiroz (126) came in fourth place and scored nine team points.
He won the quarterfinals by a 6-1 decision over Scott Blondin from Regina. He lost the semifinals by a 13-1 major decision to Kyle Anderson from Washington and lost the third-place match to Coy Ruess from West Liberty by a 4-2 decision.
Jose Cerezo (132) came in fifth place and scored nine team points. He lost the quarterfinals by a 15-0 technical fall to Tanner Probasco from South Tama County.
He won the consolation semifinals by medical forfeit over Alex Latcham from Washington. He won the fifth-place match by a 6-2 decision over Chantz Stevens from Wilton.
Juanito Piper (138) scored two team points for the day. He won the first championship round by fall in 0:44 over John Gadient from Cascade.
He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 0:49 to Colton Vest from South Tama county and lost the first consolation round by medical forfeit to Will Bobst from Regina.
Felix Solis (145) lost the quarterfinals by a 17-0 technical fall in 4:38 to Austin Beaver from West Liberty.
He lost the consolation semifinals by fall in 5:42 to Jacob Graves from West Branch.
JT Cunningham (152) came in sixth place and scored three team points. He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 0:45 to Trey Van Weelden from Washington.
He had a bye in both consolation rounds and lost the fifth-place match by fall to Bronson Brown from Muscatine by fall in 1:53.
Tucker Morrison (170) came in first place and scored 24 points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Logan Escher from Washington in 1:00.
He won the semifinals by fall over Cameron Reddick from Wilton in 3:44 and won the first-place match over Nick Milder from Regina by a 3-1 decision.
