ELDON ? The Cardinal girls? basketball team held off a furious rally from Davis County to win its regular season finale Monday.
The Mustangs scored 21 points in the final period of play but the Comets (8-14, 7-13 SEISC south) held on for a 48-45 victory.
The Comets led 20-13 at halftime and were up by as many as 11 points at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Playing a nearly flawless final period, the Mustangs cut the lead to two points with two minutes remaining.
The Comets secured the win from the charity stripe, where they were almost perfect in the game?s final minute.
Top scorers for the Comets were Lindsay Moore with 23 points, Liz Nichols with 13 and Laci Moore adding eight.
Nowhere were the Comets more effective than on defense, and they had 16 steals to show for their efforts. Lindsay Moore had a team-high five steals, while Laci Moore and Jordan Smith nabbed three each.
Next up for the Comets is a postseason matchup at Central Lee Saturday.
