LETTS - There was just too much firepower on the other side of the court on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinal Comets came up short in their Class 2A Region 3 opener at Louisa-Muscatine. The Falcons, led by Class 2A's third-leading scorer, Kylee Sanders (23.5 ppg) eliminated the Comets 55-25.
Louisa-Muscatine suffocated Cardinal in the first quarter to open up a 22-6 advantage. The Falcons took a 37-14 lead into halftime and a 49-18 advantage into the third quarter. Cardinal won the fourth quarter 7-6.
That spelled the end of the Cardinal girls basketball season. The Comets finished the year 5-15 overall and 3-11 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division.
Louisa-Muscatine moves on to the regional quarterfinals, where they will face Isabel Manning (30.1 ppg) and Van Buren County in Keosauqua tonight (Tuesday).
