Comet girls set two records in season ender; Pekin downed

DONNELLSON ? The Cardinal girls? basketball team saw its season come to an end Saturday, but not before rewriting a portion of the record books.
Cardinal?s Lindsay Moore tied the record for points in a season with 366 and Liz Nichols broke the season record for 3-pointers with 52 during a 69-42 loss to Central Lee.
Moore scored 11 points and Nichols added another 10 with three treys in the first round of regional play. Cardinal?s Laci Moore scored six and Brooke Courtney added five points. Sarah Greiner and Jordan Smith had four dimes and three steals apiece.
Cardinal ends its season with a 7-15 record. Central Lee continues onward with a quarterfinal matchup at Van Buren Tuesday.
Season ends for Pekin
EDDYVILLE ? The Pekin girls were outscored by 11 in the first half and Eddyville-Blakesburg never gave the Panthers another chance in the regional opener Saturday.
The Panthers? season ended with a 75-55 loss to the Rockets to open regional play.
Emily Ellis scored 17 points and Cheyann Lankford added 15 points for Pekin (14-8). Brandy Millikin had nine points and three steals. Leslie Stone and Paige Jensen finished with nine and eight boards, respectively.
