Comet softball crushes Mediapolis 15-1
Cardinal softball scored eight runs in the fourth inning to add an exclamation point to a 15-1 win over Mediapolis on Thursday night.
Fours were the story for Lindsey Davis, as the Comets? senior third baseman went 4-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs. She also homered in the game, her first of the season, and she upped her batting average to .470.

Cardinal softball scored eight runs in the fourth inning to add an exclamation point to a 15-1 win over Mediapolis on Thursday night.
Fours were the story for Lindsey Davis, as the Comets? senior third baseman went 4-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs. She also homered in the game, her first of the season, and she upped her batting average to .470.
Shelby Smith drew two walks for the Comets, had a base hit and scored twice. Smith leads the team with a .529 on-base percentage this season.
Erika Ash earned the win in the circle, surrendering seven hits over four innings of work. The run she allowed was unearned and she struck out one Bulldog in the game. At the plate, the freshman went 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI. She improved to 5-7 on the year pitching wise.
Ashlee Strong picked up two RBIs from the designated hitter spot in the lineup and scored two runs as well. Lexi Fullenkamp scored three runs from the leadoff spot, as the senior had two hits and a walk.
Rachel Lewman and Fullenkamp had the other extra base hits for Cardinal, both doubles, in the game. Maddie Cloke had the other hit for Cardinal.
Ally Vantiger took the loss for Mediapolis, giving up 10 hits and 13 runs, only three of which were earned, over 3 2/3 innings of work. She walked three and did not strike out a batter. At the plate, the junior had two hits for Mediapolis. The Bulldogs got their RBI from Mady Yacko in the third inning.
Cardinal will face Lone Tree tonight in Eldon. The team?s record this season now stands at 5-12.
