MORAVIA — The Cardinal softball team had been held scoreless over its last two games coming in to Wednesday night’s road game at Moravia. The Comets made up for lost time with a 15-3 smoking of the Mohawks.
Moravia had a short-lived lead after scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. The Comets tied the game with a run in the second, and then tacked on four more runs over their next two at bats.
Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Moravia scored two to cut it to 5-3. Cardinal would dominate from that point forward, putting up three in the fifth and seven in the sixth.
The Comets had five players finish the night with multiple hits. Brinlee Ostrander led the way, going 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Madison Diveley was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Caitlyn Reber had a nice night, going 2-for-4 for the Comets. Emma Becker was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Ava Ferrell was in the circle for Cardinal. She threw all six innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out five.
Cardinal’s Ava Ferrell legs out an infield single for the Comets on Tuesday against West Burlington. On Wednesday, the Comets rebounded with a 15-3 win over Moravia. (Andy Krutsinger/The Union)
