Comets fall short against Belle Plaine

CARDINAL - It was a rough night for the Cardinal football team on Friday against district-leading Belle Plaine. THe Comets were unable to contain the BP rushing attack in a 51-18 loss.
Belle Plaine led 27-6 at halftime, with the Comets' only touchdown being on a 59-yard run. Belle Plaine threw for two and ran for two in the first two periods.
In the second half, Belle Plaine's rushing attack kicked it up a notch, scoring four times. Cardinal scored twice, one being on its second kickoff return touchdown in as many weeks, but the Comets were never within striking distance after the first half.
Belle Plaine outgained Cardinal 534-173. Cardinal won the turnover battle 2-1 but were killed in third down efficiency. Belle Plaine was 7-11 on third down, and Cardinal was 1-8.
The Comets are now 4-3 overall but 0-3 in district play. THey'll head to Highland this week to try and pick up their first win in league play.
