Comets host Cardinal Volleyball Invitational
WACO, Van Buren County and Highland all featured in the tournament

ELDON — Cardinal hosted its 2023 Cardinal Volleyball Invitational on Saturday afternoon and a quartet of area teams took part.
Along with the Comets, WACO, Van Buren County and Highland all represented the Union area.
Twin Cedars and Danville also took part in the competition.
Van Buren County and WACO both led the way for the Union area, finishing with a record of 2-1.
Danville won outright after notching a 3-0 record on the day.
Cardinal and Highland both finished the tournament at 1-2.
WACO kicked off its day with a matchup against the hosts. The Warriors and Comets both put up quite the fight, but it was WACO who walked away with a 2-0 win.
The Warriors narrowly edged the Comets 24-22 in set one before taking the second 21-15.
WACO followed that win up with yet another sweep. This time the Warriors topped Twin Cedars, 2-0, very similarly to the prior match.
After a tight 22-20 victory, WACO highhandedly won the second 21-12.
In their final match of the day, the Warriors came up short to Danville in a pair of sets, 25-9 and 25-22.
As for Van Buren County, the Warriors picked up 2-0 wins over Cardinal and Highland.
The Warriors defeated the Huskies 21-12 and 21-17 in the two sets.
Against Cardinal, Van Buren County was a winner 21-17 and 21-15.
VBC lone loss came against Danville. The Warriors fell in a couple close matches 21-18 and 21-17.
Highland’s lone victory on the day came against Twin Cedars.
The Huskies put together an efficient performance, taking down the Sabers 21-15 and 21-12.
Along with the loss to Van Buren County, Highland fell to Danville 21-10 and 21-16.
Besides the two losses to WACO and Van Buren County, Cardinal was a winner over Twin Cedars 2-0.
The Comets edged the Sabers 22-20 and 21-18.
