Comets split with Chariton

ELDON - The Cardinal basketball teams went 1-1 in a nonconference doubleheader against Chariton on Saturday. The Comet boys staged a second-half rally to win 53-46, and the girls fell 71-44.
The Comet boys had a slow start. Chariton jumped out to a 16-8 lead at halftime and took a 28-19 advantage into halftime. The Comets stormed back to tie the game at 33-33 after three quarters, and had plenty enough to pull away in the fourth.
The Cardinal girls couldn't contain a firey Chariton offense early. The Chargers led 17-4 after one quarter and 41-15 at halftime. Cardinal played Chariton much tighter in the second half.
