Comets, Tigers split

NEW LONDON - The Cardinal and New London basketball teams split a pair of Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division doubleheaders on Tuesday night. The Cardinal girls took the first game, 35-23, and the Tiger boys won 58-48.
The girls game was extremely los scoring in the first half. New London took the first quarter 6-4 and held a 10-9 lead at halftime. The scoring picked up in the thitd, with both teams at least doubling their output, and it was all knotted up at 20-20 with 8 minutes to go.
Cardinal proved to have more left in the tank in the fourth quarter. The Comets shut the Tigers down on the defensive end and scored a game-high 15 points in the fourth period to run away with the road win.
Both Alexia McClure and Kinsey Hissem reached double digits for Cardinal in the win.
The Comet boys threatened to finish off the sweep, leading 11-8 after one quarter and 26-21 at halftime. New London scored 17 points in the third quarter to take a 38-32 advantage into halftime, and dropped 20 fourth quarter points to close it out.
Blaise Porter finished the night with 20 points for New London. Kade Benjamin and Devin Swanson scored 14 points apiece.
The Cardinal boys were led by Dawson Lewis, who put up 15 points in the loss. Griffin Greiner had 14.
The Cardinal girls are now 4-9 overall and 3-8 in division play. The boys are 6-6 overall and 4-6 in the South. They'll host WACO on Friday. The New London boys (9-3, 8-2) and girls (3-11, 2-9) will Welcome in Van Buren County.
