ELDON — It’s been a rough start to the season for the Cardinal girls basketball team.
The Comets have just one win in the early season, a victory over Moravia, with plenty of basketball to be played.
On Monday night against Sigourney, it was another tough one as the Comets came up short 49-41.
It was a rough first half of shooting for Cardinal as the Savages set the tone early, jumping out to a 16-6 lead in the first.
Cardinal fought back in the second quarter though as the Comets got as close as four before a pair of three pointers sparked an 11-2 run by Sigourney to the end of the first half pushing the Savages’ lead to 33-20.
Out of the locker room, the Comets found a spark.
Just over four minutes into the third quarter, Cynthia Albert gave Cardinal its first lead of the night on a three-point play. A pair of three throws gave the Savages back the lead, 39-38.
Down the stretch though, Sigourney put together an 12-3 run to end the game.
Kinsey Hissem scored a game-high 13 points for Cardinal.
The Comets will play Davis County (1-3) on Tuesday and Albia (2-4) on Friday.
