Cross-country assignments released

The Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have released the school assignments for five sites that will conduct the Oct. 18 cross-country state qualifying meets. All start at 4 p.m.
Class 2A's top-ranked Mid-Prairie girls team will compete at Tipton. No. 2 Williamsburg, No. 11 Central City-Springville and No. 12 Danville-New London will also be there as will teams to watch Davis County and Tipton. In the boys meet, No. 1 Tipton, No. 9 Williamsburg and No. 12 Davis County will be competing among the 14 teams.
In Class 3A, Washington will compete with 12 other teams at Fairfield. Ranked boys team at that site are No. 2 Clear Creek-Amana, No. 4 Marion and No. 8 Grinnell. Girls teams that are ranked at that site are No. 12 Solon and No. 13 Grinnell. Davenport Assumption is a team to watch.
Class 1A teams Columbus, Iowa Mennonite, Highland, WACO and Keota will all be traveling to Iowa City Regina. They will be among 28 teams competing for the right to go to state. Regina is ranked second on the girls side, Pekin is No. 7, Starmont is No. 8 while the boys have No. 3 Calamus-Wheatland, No. 7 Pekin, and No. 12 Maquoketa Valley.
At each of the five sites in all classes, the top three teams and 15 individuals not on qualifying teams will make it to the state meet Oct. 28 in Fort Dodge.
