Cross-country questionable in heat

The Fairfield cross-country team was slated to travel to Knoxville on Monday as part of an early-bird race at the Pine Knolls Golf Club. Excessive heat spelled doom for the meet, as temperatures in the high 90s forced Knoxville to cancel.
The cross-country schedule in general is in question. Southeast Iowa is predicted to have 90-plus degree temperatures until Saturday, and excessive heat warnings are still in effect for the eastern portion of the state.
Temperatures will cool down to the high 70s and early 80s this weekend. Washington is set to run at Anamosa on Saturday.
All other area cross-country teams are expected to start the season next week when the heat is scheduled to subside.
