Cross-Country roundup: Winfield-Mt. Union hosts home meet

Winfield-Mt. Union Cross-Country Invitational
Winfield-Mt. Union hosted it annual boys and girls cross-country invitational on Thursday afternoon.
Both the Winfield-Mt. Union, WACO and Columbus Community boys and girls competed in the meet.
The WMU boys took second in their home meet, posting 59 points.
Mediapolis won the team title with 31 points.
Columbus followed in fourth with 109 points.
Keokuk, Central Lee and Louisa-Muscatine competed as well.
Leading the Wolves was Kohlby Newsom with a third-place finish. Newsom ran just over 18 minutes in the meet.
Gabe Hemsworth followed in sixth, Ty Scorpil finished 11th, Bowen Thomson placed 13th and Jacob Nelson was 26th.
For Columbus, Damian Vergara placed eighth. Cade Storm was 16th, Bryan Tlatenchi 22nd, Ellis Hills-Carrier 28th and Ryan Villa 35th.
For WACO, Keriran Luitjens placed 23rd. Tristan Luitjens was 30th and Decon Bird 53rd.
On the girls’ side, Columbus placed fourth as a team with 96 points.
Iris Garza led in 11th. Ariana Vergara placed 12th. Isabel Rendon was 20th, Kimberly Gonzalez placed 26th, Frannie Sosa was 27th and Amelia Fulton 30th.
Leading WMU was Afton Wilkerson with a 23rd overall finish.
Jana Isanta Vila followed in 24th, while Maggie Hutton was 57th and Karilyn Titus was 58th.
For WACO, Justine Lynn was 34th.
City High Bud Williams Invitational
Hillcrest Academy headed up to Iowa City on Thursday to compete at the Ashton Course on the campus of the University of Iowa.
The Raven boys finished 11th overall, while the girls did not post a team score.
Micah Gerber was the highest placing Raven, finishing 72nd in 19:07. Jesse Blossom took 72nd, Braden Hartstock was 103rd, Jeremiah Danker 104th and Kyle Nueschwander 106th.
For the Hillcrest girls, Marie Yoder was the highest finisher.
Yoder took 25th in a time of 20:22. Rya Scott was 79th, Delaney Shaw 96th and Brynna O’Rourke finished 102nd.
